Summit of the BRICS Alliance of National Libraries at the Russian State Library

December 10-11, 2024, the Russian State Library hosted the Summit of the BRICS Alliance of National Libraries organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

The officials of the national libraries of the BRICS in a hybrid format discussed flagship library projects and the diversity of digital services for modern users. Apart from that, the attendees of the events were presented different collections and services of the Russian State Library developed especially for its readers.

The guests were greeted by State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Culture of Russia Zhanna Alekseeva, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov, the director general of the Russian State Library and president of the Russian Library Association Vadim Duda, deputy director of the National Library of China Chen Ying, head of the National Library and Archives of Iran Gholamreza Amirkhani, chairperson of the Egyptian National Library and Archives Osama Talaat, the director general of the National Library of India Dr Ajay Pratap Singh, president of the National Library of Brazil Marco Americo Lucchesi , and the CEO of the National Library of South Africa Kepi Madumo.

And December 11th, the RSL Centre of Oriental Literature, where there is being held the “Code of Civilizations” exhibition devoted to the history of the writing in the East, hosted the ceremony of opening of the Days of the BRICS Nations Culture.

The summit events were terminated by the offline informal meeting conducted by Vadim Duda with the heads of the libraries of Iran, Egypt and South Africa to be invited, and also by the signing of a cooperation agreement with the National Library and Archives of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The next summit of the alliance is planned to be held in the Republic of South Africa in 2025.
